How to Play

Clear, classroom-friendly instructions for teachers and students.

🎯Cooperative, high-stakes vocabulary matching

For Sheriffs (Teachers)

Quick Start

Create or Import a Set

Log in on the Sheriff Dashboard, open Question Bank, and paste your vocab list or import a CSV.

Launch the Lobby

Go to Start Roundup, pick your set, and click Launch Game Lobby to generate a 6-letter code.

Project the Code

Show the code on the board so students can join from any device with a browser.

Pick Teams (Optional)

Use the Team Selection toggle to let students pick teams before you start the race.

Start the Race

Press Start Game. Watch the live progress bar and event feed to keep the tension high.

Tip: Aim for teams of 3–5. Smaller groups force everyone to speak and keep the energy up.

Joining & Playing

Join the Game

Head to baffl.fun/wrangler/join and enter the 6-letter code your teacher is showing.

Pick an Alias

Spin for a western nickname (no real names needed). This is what teammates will see.

Choose a Team (if enabled)

Tap a team card in the lobby. You can switch until the teacher locks them in.

Match as a Crew

When the game starts, one teammate sees the term; others see definitions. Talk it out and pick carefully.

Finish the Board

Clear all pairs without a single wrong click to win. One mistake resets the posse.

📜

Core Rules

What Makes Word Wrangler Different

Only one player sees the current term; the rest see possible definitions.

Talk out loud. Describe what you see—examples, synonyms, or what it is not.

Tap the correct match. If anyone misses, the whole team resets to zero.

The team that clears every pair first wins the round.

Aliases only—no student accounts or personal info required.

🎬

During the Round

Step-by-Step Flow

  1. Teacher starts the game; each team is shown a term and shuffled definitions.
  2. The player who sees the term describes it without reading the full definition aloud.
  3. Teammates scan their cards and offer options; the term-holder picks the match.
  4. Correct? The team advances to the next term. Wrong? Everyone resets to zero—try again.
  5. First posse to clear every pair wins. Celebrate and review the toughest terms together.
Remote/Hybrid? Share your screen with the lobby and have students unmute only for their team turn.
Need a breather? Use Start Next Round from the lobby to give students a clean slate with the same set.

Classroom Setup

Make the Most of It

  • Seat teams in a small circle so everyone can hear each other.
  • Put devices in “campfire” formation—screens angled inward to encourage talking, not copying.
  • Keep volume up on the projector for lobby music hype; mute during the round if needed.
  • Use aliases only. No student accounts are required or stored.
  • Save the export (Teacher Dashboard → Past Roundups → Export Results) if you need evidence of practice.

Fast Fixes

If Something Goes Sideways

Student got kicked?

Have them re-open baffl.fun/wrangler/join. If their alias shows “Welcome Back,” hit Rejoin; otherwise enter the same code and spin a new alias.

Laggy devices?

Close extra tabs, switch to Chrome or Edge, and ensure everyone is on the same Wi‑Fi network.

Need to pause?

From the lobby, click Start Next Round to reset progress without making a new code.
